This is a place whereupon two of my great loves — writing and perfume oil — meet. After all, scent can evoke all sorts of things: a feeling, a memory, a place, a person. It can make us remember, inspire us to imagine.
Sometimes I wear perfume oil as I write but, more often, I will wear perfume oil for myself, and as the day goes on it will give me ideas for a story – a character, a tone, a plot. My intention with this blog is to memorialize those inspirations, and share them so that you and I may actually benefit from them, using them to write when there is time for writing.
You can expect, in each post, an official scent description, a traditional review on how it wears over time, and further commentary on what it inspires in me — whether it is a certain mood, setting, character, or idea. I will also provide original writing prompts, for fiction and non-fiction writers, based on the scent up for review.
You can play along if you want, wearing or seeking out the scent I’m reviewing, but it’s not necessary; the inspiration and the writing prompts are meant for everybody. (I don’t work for any of these companies, either. I just like scents and stories.)
Of course, whether you complete the prompts is up to you. You don’t have to share your writing here — indeed, if you want to publish then you should hold on tight to it — but I would be so happy to hear in the comments if and how a given prompt helped you. If adding in another sort of prompt in a post could help you, tell me, and maybe I can make things even better!
I’m going to have fun with this. I hope you will, too.
P.S. You’ll find the “Reviews & Prompts” link just below the header image.
