Which scent companies do you review?
If I complete a prompt, can I share it through this page?
I’d love to see that the prompts are getting use, and that they are inspiring you. If you have a short piece you are comfortable sharing (250 words-ish), you may post it in the comments of the appropriate prompt. If you wrote a longer piece, and you keep a blog of your own, feel free to link to the post in a comment on the prompt. That said, two things to bear in mind:
- I’m not a writing teacher, and I don’t intend for this blog to become a workshop (at least, not right now); I apologize in advance for not being able to read or comment on everything people share. (I’ll try, though!)
- If you do want to publish your writing, be careful about posting it in blogs. If a blog or website gets a certain amount of readers, traditional publishers will consider that work “previously published” and will not pay for first-publication rights for that work.
Otherwise, you can just comment that you liked, or how you used, a prompt! You might say, “I went this way with this, what did others do?” Maybe one was really difficult, or really easy. Or maybe you want to just rhapsodize about a scent you love in its review? Discuss, discuss!
Can I suggest scents for you to review in the comments?
Yes! I’ll do my best! Buying perfume is a hobby, though, so if I don’t own it, it might take time. Please don’t offer to just send me what you want reviewed. It’s sweet, but I’d feel very weird/guilty about it.
What if I just use the prompts and don’t actually care about perfume oil?
That’s great to hear, and exactly what I hope is happening for many. Scent is just part of my process, one of the ways I get inspired to write. If the prompts inspire you in turn, then we’re all part of this really cool circle of inspiration!
Can I use your prompts with my writing group/English class/kids?
Yes, please do! Please just credit me (however is appropriate for the medium–link, text, verbal…) and also tell me in the comments! I’m interested in how these get used, whether I am reaching anybody, and if they’re useful!
How often will you post new reviews/prompts?
This is not set in stone yet. I want to make sure people have enough time to complete a prompt from a set if they want to, before the next ones go up; on the other hand, I want to make sure that, if you didn’t like any of the prompts I posted on one review, new ones wouldn’t be too far off. Right now, I intend to post two times a week. I welcome feedback on timing and frequency from writers trying to play along. Help me help you!
